- Built 1514-1519 by Francisco de Arruda for King Manuel I to defend the mouth of the Tagus; UNESCO World Heritage with the Jerónimos Monastery since 1983.
- Closed for restoration from April 2025 (first major works since 1998); reopened to visitors on 27 May 2026 with timed entry.
- Hours: Tuesday to Sunday 09:30-17:30, last entry 17:00. Closed Mondays, 1 January, Easter Sunday, 1 May, 13 June, 25 December.
- Timed half-hour slots from 09:30 to 17:00; maximum 60 visitors inside at once and 960 per day (official regulation).
- Official ticket 2026: adult EUR 15; youth 13-24 and over 65 EUR 7.50; children up to 12 free. Online purchase adds a small service fee.
- Walk-up tickets: the ticket kiosk in front of the Jerónimos Monastery sells for both monuments; there is no ticket desk at the tower.
- No official combined ticket includes the tower. Jerónimos cloister: EUR 18 (church free).
- Lisboa Card: free entry, but a EUR 0 timed slot must be booked after exchanging the voucher for the physical card.

## Corrections to claims found elsewhere

- Most 'Belém Tower tours' do not go inside: of 11 Viator listings here, only 2 include tower entry. Bike, tuk-tuk, walking and bus tours stop outside; boat tours pass on the river.
- Belém Tower is not open on Mondays.
- Since May 2026 you cannot simply turn up: entry is by timed slot, and walk-up tickets are sold at the Jerónimos kiosk only while slots last.
- There is no combined official ticket for Belém Tower and Jerónimos.
- The old 'free on Sunday mornings for residents' rule no longer applies; residents use Acesso 52 (52 free days a year).
- The tower was built on a rock off the north bank, not in mid-river; the shore has since moved out to it.
